In 1862 it was not yet clear what would be the best route from the coast to the Cariboo gold fields. The older route was via Harrison, Lillooet, Anderson and Seton lakes to Lillooet - the lakes route or
the Duoglas Road. The competition was the
Cariboo road being built up the Fraser Canyon.
