The 2006 election

All I have to say on the election result is that the new government is the first government in Canadian history where the majority of the MPs are from west of Ontario - 65 out of 124.

With the addtion of more seats in BC, Alberta and Ontario (6, 6 and 12 woud be a bare minimum of new seats) shortly, the balance of power shifts more the west. With the new seats, BC and Alberta should have more seats than Quebec and Alberta alone should have more seats than Atlantic Canada.

In 1984 BC and Alberta had 29 out of 282 seats - 17.4%. Now they have 20.8% of the seats and shortly they will have 22.2% to 23% of the seats in the country.
