Interesting Victoria Based Charity

In the process of looking at the local elections in Victoria I came across some of the work Saanich Councilor Leif Wergeland is doing with a group called the Compassionate Resource Warehouse.

They have shipped 238 40 foot containers of supplies to developing countries in the last eight years. They remind of Tools for Peace that I was involved with in the early 1980s.

Here is what they are have been looking for, but they have a lot of supplies at the moment. I suspect they need money to get the materials shipped overseas:

Bedding, towels, household linens.

Pots, pans, plastic dishes and other non-breakable kitchenware.

(No glassware, or china)
Cutlery and cooking utensils.

(No household or lawn furniture)

(No electrical appliances as power is not compatible)

(No plumbing or electrical supplies due to incompatibility)

(No drapery rods)

(No baby car seats or battery operated equipment)

Medical Supplies
First Aid items, tensor bandages, band aids, eye and sun glasses, etc.

Wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, walking canes and other mobility aids.
Home medical equipment, back, neck, arm and leg supports, etc.

(No battery operated devices)

Please call re other needs.

Personal Care

Soaps, shampoos, tooth brushes, toothpaste, talc, combs, brushes.

Tools
Woodworking, metalworking, gardening, mechanical, electrical.

School Supplies
All levels, especially basic supplies, pencils, pens, erasers, crayons, markers, rulers, compasses, exercise books, paper, stickers, craft supplies, chalk, scissors, plus teaching aids.

School books should exclude Canadian and native history, adult fiction and encyclopaedias older than 1991.

Office Supplies
Paper, file folders, paper clips, pencils and pens, etc.

(No telephones, cell phones, fax machines, or copiers due to telephone and power incompatibility)

(No typewriters)

(No Inkjet printers)

(Monitors accepted only when accompanied by a working computer Pentium III or newer, one for one) (IMac or newer for Macs)

Sewing Machines - electric or hand operated, and treadle.

Notions - threads, needles, zippers, tape measures, trims, buttons, and patterns, etc.

Fabric - all weights & lengths of fabric for sewing, tailoring, crafts, and for practicing sewing skills.

Knitting, Crocheting, and Embroidery Supplies
All types of yarn, wool, and threads. Knitting needles, embroidery needles and hoops. Crochet hooks.

Sports Equipment
Indoor/Outdoor sports Badminton, tennis, skipping, and hoops, baseball, all uniforms etc. (No baseball helmets or pads)

Sports Balls: especially soccer balls, baseballs, and all types of other balls.

(No hockey or ski equipment)

(No skates, golf bags, rollerblades)

Dolls and Toys
All sizes of unbreakable play dolls and doll clothes.
All types of toys for all ages. Plastic, metal, and stuffed toys.

Complete jigsaw puzzles. Games.

(No battery operated toys)

Other
Prescription bottles.
Clean suitcases with all handles and zippers in working order, totes, and back packs.

For shipping we need clean cardboard boxes; movers and stationary boxes.

We cannot use food or liquor boxes due to foreign customs regulations.
