I looked back on how well Canada has done at the last four or winter and summer games. For some reason in the summer games Canada does not manage to win as many gold medals as one would expect.
If one assumes that on average a country should be able to achieve roughly the same number of gold, silver and bronze medals. In the summer games Canada consistently wins fewer golds than expected. Since 1992 Canada has won 12 gold, 28 silver and 25 bronze. If the distribution was even, that should have been 22 gold medals, 5 or 6 per games, not the three that has been achieved.
Over the last four winter games the numbers are as follows: 23 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze.
So why is Canada underachieving at the summer games?
